Brainspotting Therapy

Brainspotting is an evidence-based therapy approach designed to help people process and heal from trauma and distressing somatic experiences. When we experience trauma or events that overwhelm the nervous system, these experiences are often encoded in the subcortical regions of the brain, the areas responsible for emotion, instinctual responses, and autonomic body regulation. Unlike our conscious thoughts, this part of the brain doesn’t process information through language or logic. Instead, it holds onto emotional and somatic (body-based) experiences.

Together we find and hold eye positions — “brainspots” — that connect with your somatic experiences in real time. Through holding this gaze, a neural access to the stored memory is created, allowing the brain to reprocess the experience, finding relief, often without having to talk about it in detail.

Brainspotting simplified:

  • We work together to find and focus on specific eye positions, called “brainspots,” while paying attention to your unique somatic experiences and noticing thoughts that arise.

  • This process often uses bilateral stimulation (sound, tapping, or movement) to help deepen the subcortical processing experience.

Brainspotting has been shown to help:

  • Trauma and CPTSD/PTSD

  • Anxiety

  • Somatic Concerns

  • Individuals working in high intensity helping professions.
